‘Tis the week for our unscripted conversation & recommendations!
We have an unscripted convo (rather than writing) about once a month. During this convo, we ridicule each other while discussing books and other things we are currently loving. Why? Because we’ve never felt so alive.
🤓 Awkward? Yes.
😬 Cringy? Mmmhmm.
🤩 Fun? The most.
If you typically read—rather than listen to—our stuff, you can listen to our convo by pressing the “play” button near the top of the post.

Here are a few highlights and the promised links from this week’s convo:
1:49 — We talk about the summer transition with younger school-aged children and how we’re coping. Bethany wants to know what it means to have an “American Summer.”
8:12 — Kara gives Florida garden updates because she’s a millennial gardener now. She also gives weekly pumpkin arch updates on our Instagram so make sure you’re following us.
Also, despite Bethany making fun of Kara’s watermelon vine growth advice on the internet, Bethany’s husbo is now growing a massive melon.
12:30 — Bethany gives an update on her new chickens. They are getting ready to move to an outside coop, which is out of sight but we hope not out of mind.
15:30 — If you are still breeding, Bethany has a must-read book for you to get babies sleeping through the night. Twelve Hours' Sleep by Twelve Weeks Old: A Step-by-Step Plan for Baby Sleep Success by Suzy Giordano.
20:10 — Kara gives an update on her attempts to abstain from Starbucks (one of Kara’s 24 changes for 2024 that she’s still going strong on) and how much money she’s saved by not showing up (testing the guru theory that your daily latte can actually make a difference in your finances).
24:05 — We “turn a phrase like Truman” — This one comes from our book club book, A Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. Quoting Shakespeare, Ariel wrote, “I can no other answer make, but, thanks, thanks, and ever thanks.”
32:06 —The “Pedigree of Paula” moment is given to someone who displays class and character in a way that reminds us of our mother. This month, it goes to our dear friend Ashlee who made our kids’ lemonade stand dreams come true.
36:26 — Tayvis talk. Taylor and Travis have broken the log jam and are now out and about. Bethany is mad about Blake leveling Taylor a long time ago. Taylor visited Joe DiMaggio children’s hospital.
42:50 — “Ask Bethany!” — A fan-favorite segment that allows our Knockers to ask Bethany anything you want and receive an honest, unfiltered response! “I’m in a lot of pain right now. . . we’re done.” Have a submission? Leave it in the caaaaaaawments!
48:50 — “Sweaty Betty & Dare to Kare!” — we give updates on exercise challenges and wins. Kara gives an injury update. She’s also mad about being put in an advanced age category at Pure Barre. Bethany got worked during a pick up soccer game with her son and his friends. She also got a PR at Orange Theory for the 1 mile treadmill run.
58:50 — “Taste of Kara”— Kara bought herself a Garden watercolor workbook by Emily Lex Studio. Here’s her first attempt. It stresses Bethany out.
