Dear Lucifer
It is late November. Yesterday, I noticed tiny, golden leaves gently disembarking from the branches on the trees in my side yard. I stopped, and filmed them. They were so majestic. Then, I uploaded the boring video to my social media page accompanied by a song titled “Autumn Town Leaves” by Iron & Wine (that I found via basic b*tch search for Autumn nights playlists on Spotify).
Because this is what it means to be spiritually peaceful in the midst of the crash of the holidays.
Let me catch you up to speed.
Every year, as October approaches, I feel segments of my body clench. Tightly.
“Here it comes,” I think, “The beginning of my year-end demise.”
The gatherings. The festivities. The school events. The crowds. The recipes. The expectations. The relational strifes. The boomer’s dogs. The children’s attitudes. The mailman’s glare. The construction zones. The holiday gift guides. The self-imposed pressure to do it all.
In the past, I have allowed any and all of the above to destroy my peace.
Not this year, Lucifer. You will not steal my joy.
This year, I am practicing tranquility. Even when my person, yet again, brings home a supersized pumpkin pie from the wholesale center that will take up space/rot in the fridge.
Love,
A 39-year-old Woman

Oof, you’re in good company with the anxiety building. Perhaps, the trick is to grab a fork and have some pie. That’s my plan, anyway. Sending you love during a hefty season. ❤️
I agree with you, don’t let the devil take over, enjoy Thanksgiving with family, friends and have peace amongst yourself ❤️🙏🏻
